On the ninth day of 'ABCs of Gratitude', we are sharing something we are grateful for that begins with the letter "J". I struggled to think of one that really stuck with me ('ice cream' is a tough act to follow, is it not?) but then it came to me after watching a recent TED talk by anthropologist Robin Nagle.
In her presentation, Robin spoke earnestly about the citizens whose work is to clean up after us. She reminded us of the health, economic, and lifestyle implications of proper sanitation; and why our janitorial and sanitation workers are so critical to our everyday lives. As someone who lives in a city where 11,000 tons of garbage are produced every day, I am very grateful for the Janitors and Sanitation workers of my city.
If you pass by a janitor or sanitation worker today, try to acknowledge them and thank them for their service. It's the least we can do!
